Jennie Ing

Jennie Ing studied printmaking at Croydon College and Wimbledon School of Art. She is interested in architecture and the way space is taken up in our towns and cities and is drawn to the shapes and patterns found there. This leads to her brightly coloured and many layered linocut prints. Much of her work is of popular landmarks of London, the places she identifies with and which identify the place. Working in relief print, she uses the reduction method to achieve her layers of bold colour. This involves printing each colour separately, with the successive cutting away of areas from the surface of a flat block of lino, inking the remaining area and printing from this onto paper, continuing until the finished print is achieved. All of this is done by hand with the printing taken place on an Albion press dating from Victorian times. With the reduction block there is no going back and the whole edition must be finished at the same time. She exhibits regularly and has work in private collections in this country and abroad.
