Susan Short
Susan Short is an English printmaker and painter known for her dramatic woodcuts of landscapes and urban vistas. She studied at Wimbledon School of Art and lives in London.
Drawings and photographs are made on site and, along with observations and memories, are then developed in the studio. The source materials are used to give a sense of place and atmosphere. For example, Nature Lover was inspired by the calming experience of walking among trees in the local park. The impression made by the woodblock references the wood of the trees. Being an organic material every piece of wood is different and the block with most appropriate grain is chosen according to the effect desired. Wood is difficult to cut and print but brings a unique texture and quality to the image.
The artist has had work in many exhibitions including the Mall Galleries, Cork Street Open, Bankside Gallery and the Royal Academy Summer Exhibitions 2002, 2004, 2011 and 2022. She is an elected member of the Society of Graphic Fine Art, Greenwich Printmakers and Southbank Printmakers.
